Instructor of the Month: Gabby Herman
Posted on November 27, 2019 in IOTM

Starting this December, from the 9th - 31st, we are kicking off our Instructor of the Month Series! Each month we will highlight a REV instructor for our community to get to know a bit better. Read on to learn more about Gabby, one of our amazing and talented instructors at Brewers Hill!

1) What was your first REV experience?

Barb’s Wednesday night class over two years ago! I started taking REV’s classes regularly within the first couple months of moving back to Baltimore to start my career. I came from years of experience teaching cycling - both at my college gym at Virginia Tech and a boutique studio in Richmond through grad school. I heard about REV from a friend and immediately knew it was where I wanted to teach. The intensity and energy In the room was unmatched. I left with chills and knew I had to audition!

2) When did you teach your first REV class and what was it like?

Around 2 years ago. Instructor training was full of highs and lows - the first class was a big moment. I can still remember the playlist and the smell of the candles burning. As soon as we hit the first sprint my nerves were gone and it was a total blast!!

3) Any advice for first time riders?

Ask for help! Even if you’ve taken spin class before, let us help you get set up and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Bike set up, clipping in, our monitors, all studios are slightly different. Also, smile and say hello to your fellow riders! REV is a judgement-free zone. When I have a new rider, I recommend they work hard, but most importantly, HAVE FUN!

4) When and where do you teach?

Brewers Hill: Monday at 7:00 am (my new class!) & Wednesday at 5:30 pm.

5) What do you do when you're not at REV?

I am a physical therapist and director of a brand new clinic in Canton! I am very passionate about my job and treat all kinds of patients from the REV rider, marathon runner, weekend warrior, all the way to your 90 year old grandma!

6) What is your favorite stretch to do post spin?

Corpse pose if it’s Barb’s class. JK I actually love child’s pose and cat/cow to relieve any back discomfort that I get from both my job and spinning.

7) What is your favorite recovery fuel/recipe?

Scrambled eggs loaded with feta and spinach on top of Dave’s killer bread with a side of berries! Or a protein smoothie with almond butter, spinach, berries, and chia seeds.

8) What’s the #1 most played song in your iPod/smartphone?

Anything by Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin. I’m an old soul!

9) When you get 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?

Free time!? What is that? But seriously, my job keeps me pretty busy, but I do enjoy getting out into nature and hiking when I can.

10) If you weren't teaching at REV or working in your current career, what would you want to do?

I’d love to be a hiking/backpacking tour guide in the mountains or a musician!

In our opinion, Gabby's classes are the perfect combination of hard and fun! You will leave feeling stronger, accomplished, and the best version of YOU! Now that you know more about Gabby, join us at any of her classes this month for $15!
