Why We REVBlast!
Posted on February 11, 2018 in REV Wellness

You hear it all the time - spin is a full body workout. There are a myriad of benefits to hopping on the bike, from building lean muscle in your legs to increasing your cardiovascular capacity. Your core is (or should be) firing the whole class if you are in the correct position. So what about your arms?

This is where REV’s signature class - REVBlast - comes into play. REV Blast is the same workout as a regular REV45 class; however, within those 45 minutes of spinning there is a short 5-6 minute arm circuit using light dumbbell weights ranging from 2 to 5 pounds. Do not be fooled - these “light” weights will quickly start to feel very heavy as the circuit progresses and your shoulders, chest, biceps, and triceps begin to fatigue.

REVBlast incorporates small movements that mirror those of which you would find in a barre class targeting the smaller muscles in your arms all while still spinning your legs. Because you are still sitting on the bike during the circuit, you are not in the position to use weights as heavy as you would in a normal gym. This method uses smaller movements with lighter weights, efficiently burning out your arms in a short period of time while gaining all the benefits. Your core must be completely engaged during the arm circuit in order to keep your back safe and to ensure you are working the correct muscles in your arms.

It doesn’t take long for that burn to creep in, and this signifies when the real work begins. It is crucial to push as far as you can through the burn while keeping with the beat of the music. The smaller weights allow you to work on muscular endurance as you perform more reps for each exercise. As you keep blasting, your endurance will begin to increase. If you have to drop your weights for a quick breather just join back in as soon as you can. Taking breaks is totally okay (and usually necessary) as long as you can push yourself to get back in it!

Not only does REVBlast act as an amazing tone sesh for your arms, you will also be able to give your legs and lungs a quick break towards the end of class. This short break will allow you to finish the last part of class stronger than you started.

If you are looking for some more arm work and a new way to push yourself, REVBlast is perfect for you. If your goal is better posture and toned shoulders and biceps, REVBlast is the answer. So grab your weights and get to it - you’ll feel the burn in no time.
